Legos Might be Cool Again
My favorite Lego theme when I was a kid was the Space theme. In fact, I still remember my very first Space theme Lego toy: it was a tiny rover (see the bonus image for a 1991 flashback of #6812).
The other night, I was strolling through the toy aisle and stumbled on the greatest space-themed Lego set since the early 90's: Alien Conquest. Yes, it includes a very War of the Worlds alien invader tripod, complete with a holding chamber for human captives. Not only that, but one of the best features is the head hugging "alien clinger" piece you can attach to the mini figure's little human head.
This particular tripod kit (#7051) has a great retro alien invasion feel to me. I'm not as keen on the other kits in the series, but they're still pretty cool. I'm just partial to the imagery showing the advanced aliens winning and the stupid humans panicking and, well, losing. Maybe that's a sign that I will green nose our impending invaders when the day comes. Sorry, everyone.
